Learn about healthy living from the ways North Carolina communities have traditionally gardened, prepared and preserved food products, used food as medicine, and created stories, rituals, and customs about foodways’ place in families and communities. Inspirational exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on fun.  Dance, storytelling and music round out this educational event!

  • Sappony Tribe: samples of “Sappony salsa” and the story of the tribe’s 5K race
  • UNC Indian Center: presentation of statewide Healthy Native North Carolinians project
  • Coharie Elders:  storytelling circle
  • Conetoe Family Life Center:  story of a youth-run community garden teaching health and entrepreneurship, selling honey
